Creating a reusable React foundation across multiple applications
A shared React asset library that helped multiple teams stop rebuilding the same UI pieces in every repo.
Context
Several application teams needed consistent frontend assets and patterns. Without a shared foundation, the same components and conventions got reimplemented with small differences each time.
Challenge
Repeated implementation created drift and made coordinated changes harder across repositories. The library had to be useful enough that teams would actually adopt it.
Role
I built a shared library of React assets and worked across roughly a dozen engineers, including contractors, on adoption, reviews, and standards.
Approach
- Defined clear component boundaries and APIs so teams could reuse pieces without fighting the library.
- Documented usage and expectations so adoption didn't depend on hallway knowledge.
- Added testing and review standards to keep quality consistent as more people contributed.
- Supported versioning and rollout across application repositories.
Result
Shared building blocks used across multiple application repositories, with less one-off UI drift between teams.
